Let me introduce you to our Toll Duck

This is our Toll Duck.
Not everyone has one of these little cuties.
She actually belongs to the neighbour but she lives on the road frontage between our properties.
Every day when I drive down our drive to the gate she sees me coming and stands in the middle of the drive and won't let me pass, unless I throw her some bread.
Some mornings she sees my car coming and runs up the drive stopping me half way. This of course means I have to get out of the car, run down to the gate, get her attention by throwing out the bread off to the side of the driveway, open the gate, run back to the car and get in and drive down the drive and through the gate before she's eaten all her bread.
Some mornings I need to leave the house an extra 10 minutes early, just to get through the gate!
I think I would be the only person in Palmerston North who drives to work with a spare piece of bread in their car for the return trip. Yes, she's waiting for me when I get home too.
And Mr Madness and Mess also meets with the same demands. Often she's just sitting on the grass waiting...
We put a dish of water out for her which she loves. She's getting quite friendly now, and she chatters away to me in duck language when I talk to her.

There, so now you've met my Toll Duck!

My mom had a pet duck as a child and described Mr Peepers as ver smart and very social just as you are learning your duck is. Mr. Peepers would the pen and meet my mom on the corner everyday after school. He knew when she was coming home every.single.day. Enjoy your duck...

Your friendly duck has got me smiling and chuckling :-) Years ago our neighbours cat used to wait for us to come home and eventually came to live with us when the neighbour emigrated and I have a blackbird in the garden who waits for me to put food out in the morning but a duck is something new.

What a fun story although I could sure see it being frustrating for you if you're in a hurry.

Such great fun have a pet duck! My mom once lived on the very edge of a small hamlet - ducks lived in the narrow canal and came begging at her backdoor. They started tapping on the glassdoor of the kitchen when they saw her cooking breakfast....
Enjoy her company!

That is hilarious. It would be nice to have a little friend, even though I'm sure it is a bit of a pain some days. I'm always running late everywhere as is, so I would have to leave really early to be on time.

So funny! I can just hear you having to explain your being late getting to work - I can only imagine the reaction.
