I need your opinion on this new journal!

Hi, thought I'd share this journal with you. I started it a few months ago and it needs to be finished. I'd like your opinion please.

I've collected up a number of photos of me from when I was, umm, younger! LOL my aim was to put them all together in a album, and what better album than one of my journals? (I loved fishing, still do!)

I want to write about the photos, where they were taken, how old I was when the photo was taken, who I'm with in the photo and anything I might want to add. I figure that it might make a lovely gift years down the track.

My daughter may remember where she lived growing up, but she won't know much detail if any, of when I was growing up.

So now the special photo album is finished - on the outside at least, all assembled. What do you think?

I've just got to add the text now, add some colour, some stamps perhaps, momentos. Above left is me with my little brother. I think I would have been about 9. (My mother made all my gorgeous wee dresses and cardy's!)

I added a couple of special cards into the journal, one was a birthday card from my parents and one was a birthday card from my daughter.

So here's where I need your opinion.....

I'm just not sure about the faded old rose on the cover. What do you think? Is it too much? I'm not sure if I like there or not.

What do you think?

Oh and if you'd like to make yourself a journal, and make a very special photo album, the link to class details are on the right hand side of this blog. Click on the link to find out more or email me.

Are you all prepared for Christmas?
Love Carole x

I love the Rose on the front, but am thinking it may easily get damaged. I think the journal will be just as nude without it. What a lovely thoughtful gift for your daughter

Thanks Elizabeth. I kinda really like the rose, but wondered if it looked a bit tacky?

Hi Carole, I love the colour of the rose but the rose itself looks as if it is sitting too high off the page. I think it needs something but maybe something more delicate? Just my thoughts.

Hi, Carole, I agree with Deb: it sits a bit too high, but the color is richt. Could you maybe take it apart and add the petals to the left Side of the journal? Perhaps sew them one by one with a few pretty buttons next to them?

The journal is something I would love to have from my mom: a bit of information given in a creative way!

Happy Xmas!

I actually like the rose where it is - I guessing this type of journal being so special and such a keepsake wont need space of a book shelf nor have other 'stuff' plonked on top of it so as long as it isn't at risk of falling off personally I'd leave it there.
Have a great Christmas
hugs xx

what a lovely journal Carol, love the color of the rose but id pull it apart too and use the petals....am wondering about positioning in the bottom left corner too....but you know what it looks beautiful :)

Mmmmmm, I'm inclined to agree with those of you who are telling me the rose is too big. I have a special box, an Aladdin's cave of boxes! I will delve into it and see what I can find that might be more suitable!

What a beautiful journal Carole, I love the rose but I feel it needs to be flatter. I can see it being squashed especially if put in a book shelf and it will look not so beautiful if that happens. Whoever receives your journal, they are one very lucky person.

Thanks for the lovely comments! There is still quite a lot of writing to do inside the journal, so will start on that over the holidays. Jenny I squashed the rose and it has flattened quite a bit, but I might still look at replacing it. x

I see you say you squashed the rose. I like it as I'm a softie for roses, but my artist eye is drawn immediately to the rose rather than the adorable photo of you. My tendency would be to move it to the bottom left corner and it would balance out the weight of the photo and the ribbon.

It's beautiful Carole. I like both the suggestions of using just petals or moving the {flattened} rose down to the bottom corner but I'm sure you will find exactly the right solution. Merry Merry

I love the rose, but wonder if it would suffer from wear and tear as the years pass. Would you be able to take the rose apart and then simply use the petals and leaves to create a flatter version?

The journal is beautiful! I agree the rose is so pretty.... but something flatter might be a better choice!!! Anxious to see what you come up with! Hope you had a great Christmas!
