a blog post about matchboxes

Here in Palmerston North it is very muggy and humid.
We have had some much needed rain, our water tank was only half full.
I haven't blogged in a while, but thought I needed to do a blog post on matchboxes.

Here are two reasons why ...

Recently I received a delightful box of goodies in the mail from Patty (her link is under the QB5 group), and much to my delight amongst the goodies I found, carefully wrapped in a pretty piece of fabric, a wee matchbox.

I love matchboxes.
Don't you think Patty has made a lovely job of this one?

It is covered in paper, is very pretty and contains a secret.

One of Patty's gorgeous wee handmade bird's nests!
Thanks Patty, it's totally birdilicious :))

However.....

I also love these matchboxes .....

do you remember them from years ago?

I cut a sheet of pre-rolled flakey pastry into rectangles and cooked in a hot oven
until they puffed up and were light golden in colour.

Then when they were cool I iced them with a passionfruit icing,
and when the icing was set I split them in half and
filled them with whipped cream! (you can also fold summer berries into the whipped cream as an extra treat)
mmmmmmm!

They are lovely with a cup of tea, or as a sweet treat after your meal.
Believe me I know!

Heavenly!

Hope you are all having a stress free pre Christmas week, if you aren't,
I recommend you make and eat some of these!
Carole :)

What a beautiful little box. And the contents are delightful too. So are those pastries by the look of them though something warm and comforting would go down better this side of the world at the moment I think - must save the idea in my recipe file for later though!

What a sweet littl box from Patty....I am lucky enough to have one of her nest charms tooooooo:) and for this mouth watering concoction on display,,,well let´s not even go there. I might as well take it and slap it on my hips and wear it as my Christmas deco.

What a gorgeous little matchbox, so cute and so well done. Love the iced 'puffs', just what Santa ordered :)

My Mum used to make those puff pastry delights but she called them matchsticks and she would also spread some home made raspberry jam on them and then add the cream--yummo.
Thanks for reminding me-I am still trying to loose the kilos that I gained while holidaying in and around New Zealand.

Patty's matchbox is aDORAble - and the birdies nest is totally divine, I've asked Santa for one, but he gave me a preplexed look!!! She's an amazing talent.

Mmmm... I agree with Miche'le - you're too wicked!! I've eaten my way thru this week, with every imaginable Christmas delight, if these had been on offer they could have taken their place on my hips too!!!!
:0))

Hey Carole! Love the tiny matchbox and the other matchboxes look wonderful!!! I may have to try those! I just finished a quilt if you'd like to pop over and have a look. What kind of sewing machine do you have? I'm looking to get a new one that will let me do free-motion sewing, but that doesn't cost over $1,000. Thanks, Marva
