some great finds for my class

In July next year I am teaching at National Quilt Symposium in Taupo. I am teaching my journal class, my free motion machine and hand embroidery class and an embellishment class. (the link is at the top of my blog on the right hand side)

I have started looking for exciting bits and bobs to take with me for my students to use. I found a whole card of this pretty lace and it will take dye well.
I also found this fabric which will make the best ever covers for journals! Isn't it gorgeous?
I think I may have to think about making goody bags for my students.
Have you ever attended a class and been given a goody bag? What sort of things were in it? And how many things were in it? I'd love to know if you have time to leave me a comment!

Oh wow - maybe I'll win the lottery and be able to come the other side of the world.

We had a fubulous time at Lake Taupo. We stayed at the most amazing homestay the garden of which went right down to the lake and they had their own boat. The host had got bitten by a spider and was rushed to hospital - he live to tell the tale - the house was called Kooringa - and we named our home the same when we moved here. They've got a great bowling green! My husband bowled and I had a great meal there!

I'll have a go at the lottery tomorrow - keep your fingers crossed - and I'll be there if I win. LOL

Carole...
So sweet of you to share your card of lace...just a little bit of lace knowledge to share...what you've got there is basic HANDMADE torchon bobbin lace...no machine involved with this length of goods...looks as if it was a beginner's work...tension isn't the best, but we all have to start somewhere! LOL The central design is called a "spider"...your piece has two "eyes"...most designs usually have just one. This particular lacemaker could have used a heftier thread and better tension while weaving her bobbins and would have ended up with a nicer product, but one has to give her snaps for producing the amount she did! You certainly have quite a lot to share with your students!!!
just me...also a lacemaker...jan

I love your bits & bobs! Your classes will be wonderful. No goodie bags at classes.... have gotten goodie bags given at the registration table for the main gathering before breaking into classes. But good things for a goodie bag would be little pin keepers, pin cushions, candy, lace...

Goody bags could include a selection of below: little piece of fabric, lace or torn papers similar to those in class, plus an old button, one of your patterns (small item), a reward sticker of some sort (star?!), pencil, band-aid, something tea-dyed, small length of ribbon or string ... cheers

Beautiful finds! And yes, that fabric would make gorgeous covers! Hard to believe that the symposium is THIS JULY. It seemed such a long time away when you first knew you were going to teach. I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOU!

I agree with Cait about a goodie bag --the little pieces should be able to be used in the class not all bags to be the same---just have the same number of bits and pieces --class members may even like to swap with each not sure if I will make this Symp but your classes sound great.
