A weekend of vitamin D

I didn't have any time off over Christmas, so a chance to get away for a night was too good to pass up!
Just what I needed, a couple of days of doing nothing.
A mini break involving an overnight camp at Urenui Beach, just north of New Plymouth.

Traci joined us for the weekend and we got to try out our new 3-man tent.

These wee boxes were just over the fence from our tent. I was curious.

They were little nesting boxes for the Little Blue Penguin. They are the world's smallest penguin
and come ashore under the cover of darkness. Although it isn't the breeding season at the moment
the Little Blue Penguin's take to nesting boxes really well.
How cute, I really wanted to add a few homely touches, but I resisted the urge. :))

Ah, lots of swimming, and sun and reading and sleeping. Perfect!

Carole :)

fab spot to pitch your tent! Looks like someone beat you to the stencilling on the box! I thought it looked like a rabbit! I couldn't imagine NZ encouraging their growth!

Penguin boxes-- not something you see just anywhere! Just the thought of warm sand between my toes makes me light headed. Lucky you. :)

Glad your weather is good there. Unlike Oz. -sigh-

Must have been lovely, to be at a beach!!! We are deep under snow now, up here in the Northern Hemisphere.

Looks like a very nice place to visit - not sure about the tenting tho! My hubby would love to go tenting though I'm such a princess - only cabins, baches or motel beds for me LOL. Hugs Jx

Ya can't beat a three man tent! I can't imagine that penguins open those boxes and get in.
