Scones for Kate!

As requested....

Date Scones

3 cups of flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 tablespoon sugar
25 grams (1oz) butter
approx 1 cup of milk
1 cup of chopped dates

sift dry ingredients into a bowl, add sugar then rub in the butter, then add dates. Mix to a soft dough with the milk, using a knife, (add extra milk if needed). Tip out onto a floured bench, knead slightly, pat into shape and cut into shapes. Place on an oven tray and cook for about 10 - 15 minutes at 230 deg C or 450 deg F.
Enjoy while hot/warm with butter!

You can make plain scones by omitting the dates and sugar, and adding 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Plain ones are nice with lashings of berry jam and whipped cream!!

You can make cheese scones by omitting the dates and sugar and adding the salt and 6 tablespoons of grated cheese and a pinch of cayenne pepper!

Happy baking, and don't forget to use your pretty china to serve them on!
Carole :)
